Let’s say it’s a hot afternoon and you wish you had some ice cream in the freezer, but you don’t. Enter cardamom cream slush. This cold, creamy treat can bring a smile to a hot day.

My personal history with cardamom goes back to a workday potluck when one of my co-workers from India brought an amazing dessert. I took one taste and it was love at first bite. Cardamom is now one of my favorite spices. It’s an ingredient in many Indian dishes and is used in lots of desserts. Read more about cardamom here.
Jump to RecipeThis cardamom cream slush is another one of my super-quick recipes with just a few ingredients. It’s July and we’re traveling, so let’s keep it simple.
Ingredients
Heavy whipping cream, sugar, maple syrup, crushed ice, and cardamom combine to make this frozen dessert. You’ll need a blender that’s capable of crushing ice.

There are some cardamom pods in the ingredients picture, but I used powdered cardamom in this recipe. The powder is made by crushing the seeds that are inside the pods. Don’t worry; you don’t have to do that yourself; just buy the powdered version. If you have an Asian or Indian market in your area, look for it there. This spice can be hard to find in grocery stores, but you can always order it from Amazon if you can’t find it locally.
Making Cardamom Cream Slush
Put all of the ingredients in the blender. Blend the ingredients until they are smooth. If necessary, use the spatula that came with your blender to make sure there are no big chunks of ice. I used the frozen desserts setting on my Vanaheim blender and blended the ingredients until the ice chunks turned to slush.
Serving Cardamom Cream Slush
Eat this dessert right away. It melts quickly and doesn’t re-freeze very well. If you put leftovers in the freezer they will be too hard to eat. Cardamom cream slush works best as a slushy treat that you start eating with a spoon and wind up tipping the bowl and slurping down the rest.

If you have some cold brew coffee around, especially strong, espresso cold brew, add a bit of that for a caffeinated version of this treat.

Make this once, and you’ll think of excuses to make it again.
